Thinking Hats Reflection On Net Books

Out of all my cousins I'm the very lucky one. Why? Because instead of using old boring pencil and paper we are  now using Net books to learn, create, and, share with each other.

With our Net books we not only can do our work at school but at home as well.We are not only learning from Ms.Garden but from everyone around the world. Sharing our work can also teach people on how use better techniques.

The net book also makes writing more faster. Why? well we don’t have to use an eraser when we make mistakes, and we can also use allot more programs. We communicate with people easier and also stay in touch with our family.

Our net books have 2 little tiny problems. One of them is they don’t have a movie making program . Its a  bummer because we are movie making kids that love to make and share our movie.

Then there is the other problem is that it is extremely hard to draw. Not only can we draw but we can’t animate to. Tux paint is just a drawing program that you can import or draw images on.

A solution that I came up with to fix our problems was maybe the make those hinges steel or metal or something that won’t break. For the animating and movie making they could probably install a movie making program without slowing our net books down which could be really awesome.

CAMP BENTZON

“YAY SANDSPIT HERE WE COME” I yelled as I hopped on the bus.  It was Tuesday the day camp had begun, excited that the day had finally arrived. Known as the BEST camp ever at Pt England I was overwhelmed, all I could do was just talk about  it all. Suddenly the bus stops, we load the ferry and were off.

FINALLY AFTER SO MANY HOURS we arrived at Kawau Island. Loading the bags on the deck as fast as possible, we then lined up in our teams. BENTZON was the best team ever with the three guardians MR and MRS Samuels and Mrs. McDonald. Emptying and preparing for the extremely tiring walk

SWEATING SO MUCH we had a break on the walk. I'm really sure that the walk was about 8 km  or something like that. Arriving at one part of the walk Isara said a wonderful speech  about camp and said how grateful he was.  We then headed back for camp and practised for our team item. So because I our was the best we came and in camp.

I enjoyed year 6 camp so much because we were all just like we'll FAMILY. So yeah when you go to year 6 camp you'll just have the time of your life.

Camp Bentzon

Tomorrow all year 6's will be travelling from school to Kawau Island.  Having to get up and be ready before 7:00 we'll be hoping on the bus for a 3 hour drive.

On the North Cove  of  Kawau Island, is exactly were Camp Bentzon will hopefully be. Going on the bus for a 3 hour drive then on the ferry to get to the island is how we will get there.

The cool thing I'm mostly looking forward to is raft making. Why? Because we work as a team and we'd also learn how to make one which will be awesomely fun.

I am looking forward to the fun that  I'll have with my friends and the fun that I will have with my team mates, guardians, and activities.

Abseiling will be a challenge for me because I'm normal up on high  things so I am going to challenge my self and face one of my tears.

Although I am not that great with heights I still think that I'll have the time of my life and it will be the best camp that I've ever experienced.

Couplet Poetry

Summer:

Summer is so hot
So hot I heat up like a pot
I’d  then get a  frown
But to turn it  upside down
A little play around
At the little playground

Year 6 Camp:

At year 6 camp
I want to do a tramp
But also go on sand
Just away from all the land
And see some great caves
Or swim in little waves

The Daily News

During the past few days my reading group the Wekas have been given a task to write their own News  Paper article about NZ Earthquakes, Scientific Modelling or Lake Vastok in the Arctic. I chose  NZ Earthquakes and here is what I've created.

Triathlon

Have you ever tried to do  a Triathlon? Well if you haven’t you've definitely got to try because I am telling it’s awesome. So guess what we got the chance to do a Triathlon and we did!!

So Any ways arriving  at the Tri Kids set up area  Mark introduced us  to Adrian and Brett. We then  learnt the rules and had a few practice rounds, so that when it came to the final we’d know exactly what to do.  Rule 1. was to not ride the bike in transition. Rule 2. was to put your helmet on first as you get into transition.

After learning the rules and that we had a run and ride to get the hang of it. Practising and trying my best I think I came 8th in the practice round. We then watched the boys as they ran their best and peddled, after that we all stretched and got ready for the finals.

Warming up for the finals the boys started. THEY WERE OFF, putting their helmet on and as fast as they could they peddled and did 2 laps around the field. Lining their bikes up they ran and ran. Crossing the finish line I think Jonathan might have came 1st.

It wasn't over yet, It was the girls turn now. We all lined up ready for the one simple word “GO” Mark yelled as I put my helmet on and quickly peddled. Finishing my bike race as fast as I could I  ran as hard as I could. Crossing the finish line with a tie I was glad.

Although it was tiring I like it so much. Riding on bikes and running is quite fun to do but unfortunately we didn't get to do swimming. It was such a great day for it all.

The Big Chill And The Big Drill

For the past few days the Wekas were given a task to research the climate change, Antarctic glaciers, drop stones, ANDRILL project. Then put our information together and put it in a presentation. Here is my ending product.

Similes

For the passed few weeks or so the Weka's have been reading Docking Day. Our reading was to have 2-3 good sentences to tell you why this years docking day was better than ever. We've also been told to illustrate 2 similes from the story. Here's my sentences and paintings.

This years  docking was better than ever because a chocolate van came rolling down the hill spewing chocolate bars and biscuits like  Christmas decorations on a christmas tree. This story was also based on a true story which would be  awesome to experience.

‘Like Christmas decorations tipped over the hill’

Vacation Disaster!!

Miela, her mother Lea, her father Rick and her  2 brothers Cameron and Daniel were on a vacation. One very hot day they went out to the beach  for a swim.  So far they all were having a great time, but they didn’t have a clue on what was going to happen.

Watching Cameron and Daniel jump off the rocks seemed quite cool to try out. So what do you know, she had a turn. Diving into the rough sea, Miela hit the water, head first. After many minutes waiting for MIela the brothers  were terrified that there was no sign  of her . Looking out at the waves  Cameron saw somebody floating in the water waving their hands.

Examining the person carefully, he noticed it was his sister, screaming “ HELP HELP SOMEBODY SAVE ME”. Knowing that Cameron couldn’t fix the problem  on his own he ran to the bank to tell his parents . Calling the lifeguard for a boat they RUSHED AS FAST AS THEY COULD.

With a huge effort on trying to save their sister lucky she was okay. The family then flew back to San Francisco   in the morning and was never seen again.

Mrs Verry

Unfortunately our school Super Gran is retiring and is going to take it easy. Mrs Verry is a really GREAT, AWESOME person to know. She loves you so much and treat's you like her own. All our memory's of her are still with us. She's always going to be our Super Gran, and our Bling Queen.

Even though she is really good at  crashing bicycles she'll always be the person who cares for Pt England. She is like a mother is everyone she meets.  We all love her and it's very hard to see a great Gran go and retire. SHE'S SPECIAL!!!!
FAREWELL MRS.VERRY!!!

The Duffy Assembly

Walking into the duffy assembly I sat down  silently. Waiting for our special guest Jo Holley we sang songs.

Finally arriving Jo Holley asked us many questions and told us how she first began her  career as a T.V Star and a Movie Star.  Starting her  career at primary Jo said she had started presenting when she was about 11. She was in many T.V shows such as Squirt , Crowd Goes Wild, ITM fishing and other shows that I’ve forgotten. There was also 1 movie that was Siones Wedding 2 Unfinished.

After telling us about her career and how she started she handed out our duffy books with Ron and Oston from the Buckland Beaches Lion club in Pakuranga. Calling classes 1-24 we went up and  claimed our books. After that Jo Holley signed some books and took photos with the classes. Unfortunately we did not get her autograph but we did get a High 5.

Jo Holley said that  even though you make mistakes it doesn’t matter, what matters is to have fun. I thought about what she said and it was true.

Quick And Easy Boxes

Follow my 7 easy steps to get a useful box.
Step 1. First of all you'll need a rectangle of stiff paper about 20 x 15cm.

Step.2. Then you fold the paper from bottom to top and from side to side.

Step.3. Then fold both the long edges into the middle  crease. Then unfold them.

Step.4. Both the short edges need to be folded into the middle crease . ( Leave them there)

Step.5. Then fold all the corners so that they meet the nearest crease.

Step.6. Fold back the edges of the middle so that they cover the corners.

Step.7. Then put a finger inside each corner and pull gently outwards.

For your finally touch pinch the corners and smooth the sides to make them stand up.

Tooth Fairy 2

Have you ever watched The Tooth Fairy 2, well if you haven’t then I’m telling you right now that its a great movie to watch and enjoy with your family.

So anyways last weekend I watched The Tooth Fairy 2 with my cousins. We had snacks to go with it as in Willy Wonka Lollies, Caramel Popcorn, and a drink. When the movie started we all crawled into our blankets.  At first the movie was alright but as I kept watching it , it  got better and better.

The bit that I really found funny was when Larry Guthrie (the main character)  was playing snow fight with the after school kids but not for long. During the snow fight his ex- wife came and growled him  for all the mess he had created. While she was doing that Larry loaded the cannon ball into the slingshot  and let it go. What do you know it landed on her face.

In this movie there was a very cruel man who was engaged with Larry’s true love who he lost from winning a car at the bowling isle. This mean man was always trying to ruin Larry’s Life. He succeeded but then larry got revenge  for all the mean things that the mean man  had done.

At first when Larry had found out that he was a tooth fairy he hated it. But he started to realise that being a tooth fairy was actually fun. He then retired at the end and got back together with his ex who then got pregnant and had a wonderful baby.

After enjoying that funny and awesome movie we had some delicious pizza. A few minutes later basically my whole family was over. So we had and awesome night, enjoying pizza and watching that funny movie. Finishing our feed hours later we had desert. After all of that we watched the All-Blacks game.

Overall I think that my weekend was really awesome. Hopefully I’ll be able to enjoy another one exactly like that. I hope you enjoy the movie with your FAMILY AND FRIENDS!!!

How To Get Better At Shot Put

Thanks To iaaf.org For The Wonderful Photo

For the last week or so the Wekas and Kiwis had to chose what style we would like to use to write about Shot Put. I chose Instructions which are for people who have tried this sport but want to get better.

I know that many of you out there have tryed a sport and want to take it further. If one of those sports is Shot Put , then who knows you might be another Valerie Adams if you read these handy tips on this post.

One  really important thing you need in Shot Put is the correct equipment.  Shot Put has only  a little Equipment involved :
*Shots which come in many sizes and materials ,
*Footwear which  usually have a  smooth, hard outsole for fast spinning
*The wrist wrap. Which  most athletes included in this sport  use it to  wrap their wrists   to prevent serious injury or to give support.

In Shotput you take your throw from a inside marked circle, with a stop board about 10 cm in front. After you put  your shot it is then measured from the center of the circle . The nearest mark in the ground  made by the heavy shot,  is then  rounded down to the nearest centimetre.

Step By Step

1. Holding The Shot
When holding your Shot it has to be on the base  of your fingers not on your palm and your fingers also have to be slightly spread out.

2. Neck Placement
First place the shot against your neck .  Lower it until it is down near your jaw. Push the shot into your neck.  Point your thumb towards the throwing direction.

3. Delivering  Your Shot
Your eyes up at the sky or ceiling.  Push the shot away from your neck.   Your elbows must stay high at all times , because  if your elbow is lowered it can cause serious injury.

Well There you go. Hopefully my handy tips have helped you get better at this sport. Thank you  very much for reading!!

Olympic Creed

Here is the creed for the Olympics written by Pierre De Coubertin

"The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well."

Mt.Wellington Semi Finals!!!!

With excitement my mum, aunty and I made our way to Victoria Park for my brother Kane's semi final under 14's Rugby League. When we had arrived at the game it was about to start so we all had headed over to give my brother good luck.

Using the strategy by passing the ball around unfortunately the team that was challenging against Mt.Wellington had scored a try. Trying their best Mt.Wellington tried and tried to score but they could not. They still didn't give up because they still had faith in them.

Not giving up my brothers team had scored a try. So after that It was  a chance for him to get that ball over the goal post. Shouting " YES YES YES" the Mt.Wellington team supporters were glad for them and were very happy that they were in the lead.

The game was not over yet.The crowd had calmed down as the other team had gotten closer and closer to the goal line. With angry faces the number 5 from the other team had been throwing punches at the number 16 from Mt. SO on the field there it was both teams having a fight. Calming down the 1 who had started it all had gotten sent off the field.

Sorting it out the other team wasn't ready so happily Mt.Wellington scored a try. All the pressure was on my brother because that score had counted as a victory. Obviously my brother had scored and it was victory. The crowd of Mt.Wellington was going wild.

Overall this game was very good to watch. SO now the Rugby League that was challenging Mt. lernt that you had to be ready at all times and be discipline.

Stress Busters!!

The Medley Relay

Included in the olympics is a very popular sport and that is the Medley Relay. In this relay swimming is only involved. Four different strokes for four different people makes up this exciting team sport.
Swimming as fast as you can beating your opponents is the aim of the event.  When you are swimming you have to do the right strokes and the right turns. This relay also  has strict rules, and strict referees.
All  athletes included in the Medley relay wear a type of suit called jons. This suit prevents drag. A pair of goggles the swimmer wears keeps the water  and chlorine out of their eyes and the swimming cap also helps keep the swimmers hair out of the way.
The talents and skills needed for the medley relay is strength and stamina. Exercise is very important to do if you are a contestant in this sport. Swimming is about techniques and is also about mental psychology.
Overall I think that the medley relay would be fun to do. I also think that this sport is for very fit people.  Athletes who compete in this event must be very very fit in order to compete.
