Action World

Last Friday the Year 7's went for a trip to "ACTION WORLD", a fun outdoor, activity adventure land for ages - WHO KNOWS! Luckily for the Year 8's they were also having fun at their end of year camp.

Arriving at action we all gathered into our own smalls groups of 6 - 12 and sat down. Listening to the instructors everyone took their shoes off and lined up. Our first activity was the rock climbing wall, this was the hardest of them all only because it was very slippery. Secondly we headed over to the Jungle bars, which included strength and good listening skills.

After we finished rotating around all the activity's at Action World we had a little munch. Later on the instructors let us have free play, when we could play on anything we wanted to have a try on. As we all had our last turns on the activity's we all then gathered and sat down in front of the Trapeze. The instructors then demonstrated a few moves, and flips on it and showed us which basic one we were to do.

From my own point of view the challenge that really scared me the most was probably the Jungle Swing. Why? Well I guess being high up in the air was pretty scary especially when you look down. Most of all I really enjoyed having a lot of turns on the Tightrope. Mostly because I was able to just take a few steps on the rope high up in the air without holding on to anything.

Hopefully that when you go to action world it is really fun for you and that you enjoy it.  It would be cool to go there next year as well as a class trip or for camp maybe.  I really hope that maybe next year we get another opportunity to visit action world and maybe next time I'll be able to accomplish everything. ESPECIALLY THE TRAPEZE!

Net-Book Reflection

Having a netbook that connects to the internet is very handy. Why? Because whenever I'm stuck on something or whenever I want to learn about something I can just search it up and read into it. For example when I'm stuck on my maths or want to learn better strategies to figure my answers out I just search up math strategies and a whole lot of tutorial videos come up.

By using the internet I'm now able to learn how to get better at making movies and using green screen a lot more. I'm now able to use green screen a lot better than before because I'm able to search it up.

Something special that Ms.Tito has taught me this year was to always be "PURPLE COW", to stand out from the rest. By being purple cow I'm able to make much more cooler things on my netbook.

One time we were given the task to create and MTV. I had no idea on how to film properly with and Ipad. But by using my initiative I played around with it and now I've got a few tricks up my sleeve when it comes to ipads.

Throughout the whole year my friends have taught me how to use scratch. It's a online game making program where you can make your own games and publish them to the web where everyone can play them. It might become handy for me one day, who knows I might be a game maker.

Helping my classmates online is what I do best. I mostly help kids with writing their own comments and making sure that they check/proofread before they publish. In return I get help on writing better scripts for my pod casts on KPE.

With my netbook I'm able to manage myself a lot more, because I no longer have to wait around for the teacher to tell me to get on with it. I now can just hop on my netbook and check our Team 5 google site and see what my literacy group is doing for the day.

Using net books this year makes learning much more easier and faster for a lot of us. There can be problems at times such as the internet, but it doesn't really matter because our school supplies netbook technicians or we either just search how to fix it on the internet. Using netbooks can also help make you realize the mistakes in your writing, reading, and maths.

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela

                                                                 In Memory Of
                                                       Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela
                                              July 18th 1918 -  December 5th 2013

Born July 18, 1918 in a small village located in Transkei was a well known South African politician Nelson MandelaAt a very young age nelson Mandela and his 9 brothers and sisters sadly lost their Fathesekeni Fanny Mandela. During Nelson's time as a ward at the Great Place in Mqhekezweni Nelson heard stories of his ancestors during the wars of resistance. At that time he dreamed of making his own contribution to the freedom struggle of his people.

He Attended a primary school in Qunu, where his teacher Miss. Mdingane gave him the name Nelson. Mandela then began studies for a Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University College of Fort Hare. Unfortunately he didn't complete the degree because he was expelled for joining a student protest.  Year's later in 1944, Mandela married nurse, Evelyn Mase who then had two sons, and two daughters that died caused by infancy.

Secretly leaving South Africa, Nelson Mandela was then arrested during a police roadblock. He was then sentenced to five years in jail for leaving the country illegally. While he was serving Nelson Mandela's mother and eldest son sadly passed away, unfortunately he wasn't allowed to attend their funerals. On 11th June 1964 Nelson Mandela was sentenced to life in prison.

Sunday 11 February 1990 Nelson was released from the prison.  In 1991 Nelson Mandela was elected president, and was then a South African who was sentenced to life to Nelson Mandela who was elected for president. In 1999 after one term of being president Nelson Mandela stepped down from his role as president.

A couple of years later unfortunate news had come to the family that Mandela was diagnosed with prostate cancer. July 18, 2012 Mandela celebrated his 94th birthday with his family in Qunu. Throughout 2012- 2013 Mandela was in and out of hospital beds. Sadly for Mandela he spent his 95th birthday in hospital. September 1st 2013 Mandela was discharged from hospital, unfortunately on December 5th Nelson Mandela sadly passed away.

What I've learnt from Nelson Mandela is to not care what other people think and always stand up for what you think is right. All I know is that Nelson Mandela stood up for what he thought was right and changed everything. He a man everyone will never forget not for just changing equality but for being a loving, caring, big hearted, strong man.

Top 3 Highlights Of The Year

As I look back  throughout the whole year I realised that my top 3 highlights would have to be:

Firstly is our trip to Waitangi. Why? It was the top highlight for me because we not got to look at images on the web of Waitangi but we got to see it all in real life. It was really fun because a lot of us came together as closer friends, and we go luxurious bedroom suites. The whole reason why I like our Waitangi trip though was mostly because we got to see Waitangi in real life and learn about our Tupuna/Ancestors.

Secondly was being apart of the school production "Sixty The Quest". Why? Well I really liked both dances we learned and performed. Our first dance was our "LIght Dance". We were dressed in christmas lights  and dramatically dancing to a voiceover. Then our last and second dance was with a purple light. As we glowed in our handmade costumes we proudly dance swiftly.

Last but not least is when we were doing harakeke with Ms.Tito. I really enjoyed doing harakeke because I learnt  a lot of skills and techniques on how to weave properly. I also learnt a few do's/don't while we were weaving, and  I definitely would love to do weaving again.

Statistic Images

Statistic images are everything you see. For example if you close and then open your eyes whatever you see is a statistic image. So basically what I'm saying is what you see is a statistic image. Anyways below this writing is a statistic image that I have chosen to write about. Explaining the contrast, the angle and the lighting.

This picture caught my eye as soon as I saw it in google images. Why? Well I guess the contrast and lighting on it first of all interested me because it brings a lot of happiness to the photo and makes a lot of people more interested in the attraction. When I look at this photo I guess it makes me smile, and wonder what's going on in paris.  It also makes me want to  smile and want to travel to other attractions around the world.
The Unique thing about this photo is the contrast, brightness and effects. I really like this photo because the colouring makes it more intriguing and interesting to look at.

Future Aspirations

Thursday 14th November the Year 7 & 8's gathered into our school  hall for a Future Aspirations talk with a couple of speakers, that would hopefully inspire us. Andrew Patterson the host of Future Aspirations gave us some inspirational idea's and got a lot of us thinking about what we wanted to be when we get older. After a talk with the MC/Host Andrew Patterson the year 8 & 7's split up. Year 7's in the hall and Year 8's in the street.

Tristan, a 12 year old boy attending Ficino School talked to us about his life and how he grew up to be the talented young man he is to this day. For me personally, I think that Tristan has a really good attitude and inspires someone literally everyday including me. Why? Well he is already studying Year 13 maths at the age of only 12, and is going to be attending university next year. As well as being brainy it's mostly because of his passion for learning and attitude towards it. So he really inspires me to not stop doing what I love and try my hardest.

Personally for me when I grow I'd like to use my personal strengths which are reading, and writing and put that into my dream. I'd first obviously get better and better at it. Then I would possibly want to maybe go to university to study more and more to get better at it. Then hopefully at the end of my hard work and determination I'll hopefully be a author or something like that.

                                                     To Our Wonderful Speakers:
I'd like to thank Tristan Pang, Aysha Hohaia, Caine Warren, Emma Brown and last but not least Mosa Mafileo for inspiring us a lot and giving us some great idea's for the FUTURE!!!

The Animal Kingdom

Hungry and determined to get home Zara ran as fast as she could. Arriving at home, she quickly stuffed her face with food and fell into a deep sleep. She suddenly woke up and was in another dimension. As she looked around she saw animals surrounding her. She suddenly yelled " HELP, HELP!" But no one replied. In embarrassment Zara stood up and  walked away.

Out of no where Zara was taken to Queen Ziela. Queen Tara said “ You are here for a reason. You must help us by trying to save our world”. With a quick reply Zara said “ What world? This is all a dream! How can I save you? I have no powers or magical spells”.

“How do you know that?’ said Queen Ziela. “Your mother was once in the same position as you were in. She came here years ago and saved us from death by using her powers”. Queen Ziela continued to speak. “She protected us with an immortal ring. It gave her all the strength she needed to protect us from the Queen of Death Muobasha”.

After Ziela convinced Zara, Zara was then given the immortal ring. Over a period of 2 years Zara learnt how to become an expert with the immortal ring. Zara was accepted into Ziela animal kingdom, but the time had come for Zara to face her fears and save the animal kingdom of Ziela.

The legend is so that when Zara defeated the Queen of Death Mobbish Zara was then made mortal, a true person of queen Tara. Being mortal meant that Zara was able to live in the Animal Kingdom Forever, and her powers were permanent. As time flew by 6 years later Zara found her king and gave birth to a young Prince called Zeal. Then they lived happily ever after.

Halloween

These are the things that I normally see people use to celebrate Halloween.

Candy
Costumes
Carved pumpkins with scary faces
Spooky things
Little kids running around the neighbourhood
Trick Or Treat
Creepy Characters

Halloween
: I think that halloween is mostly about having fun, eating heaps and heaps of lollies and scaring people. Some people think that Halloween was about celebrating evil thats why a lot of Christians and people that go to church won’t allow their children to celebrate and go trick or treating. I would really like to know what Halloween is really about.

What I've Previously Found Out :

The Celtic Calendar
The celtic calendar, was when the the year was split into 2, the dark half and the light half.  On All souls day which was on 2nd of November priests would tell people to pray for the dead in purgatory. Purgatory is a place between heaven and hell, and according to the priests to get out of purgatory people would have to pray hard for you. Then after a lot of prayers you would then be lifted into heaven.

Lemuria Day
On the 13th of may it was Lemuria day, this was when the  Ancient Roman’s  would pour milk on the graves or offer them a salt cake to stop them from rising up out of the ground. Lemuria day was then moved to the 1st of November to suck the life out of the Samhain harvest festival.

Jack O'Lantern
One of the original story's of the Jack O’Lantern was originated from Jack. He was a man who was kicked out of hell because Satin didn't want him there. The Devil then went to visit Jack and he played a trick on him. Jack nailed the Devil to the wall then the Devil said please let me go. Jack then said only on one condition, if you let me roam around on earth and let me live here as long as I want. Thats why they say to not go near flickering lights because people think it Jack O'Lantern.

Breaking News: 41 Elephants Poisoned

Breaking News : Earlier this week 41 elephants were sadly killed by poachers in Zimbabwe. How? They used cyanide poison to kill the innocent creatures by spreading it over their habitats. Previous reports from Zimbabwe parks from Caroline Washaya Moyo said she told many reporters that five suspects have been arrested and has been the parks worst case.

People that live in the area have been told to not eat any meat of the dead animals found in the area. Over a period of about 3 years more and more poachers are starting to kill rhinos and elephants. Why? Sadly people are just killing them for their horns and tusks which are needed in parts of Asia for their medicine. Tests are still being taken on the dead animals, but for any human or animal to touch the poison is very bad.

Unfortunately two years ago in that exact same park nine elephants, five lions, and two buffalo were also poisoned and then soon died, for the exact same thing. As well as it is also sad that people kill innocent animals for body parts, it’s sad because people don’t care about the animals and they just easily get away with it. I think this urgently needs to stop and  I think now!

John Fitzgerald Kennedy "JFK"

John Fitzgerald Kennedy or as most people know him as "JFK" was the 35th president proudly serving the United States Of America from 1961 to death in 1963.

12:30pm in Dallas, Texas president John F. Jack Ruby killed Lee Harvey Oswald on November the 24th and then was life sentenced but then became ill and died of cancer on January 3rd, 1967. The assassination was then proved to be an very important moment of U.S.A history.

John F. Kennedy was buried in a small plot in Arlington National Cemetery. Over a period of 3 years 16 million people had already visited Kennedy's grave. On March 14, 1967, "JFK's" body was permanently moved to a burial plot and memorial at the Cemetery. Jackie Kennedy with her 2 deceased children were then buried with John. Kennedy. Life In Auckland & Syria

Waking up in the morning, I enjoyed the delicious smell of fresh bacon and eggs. As I was jumping out of my bed, I then heard gunshots coming from each corner of the room. Suddenly echoes of screaming kids, gunshots were ringing in my ear. Scared and
helpless I ran into my room and grabbed my younger brother’s.       We quickly gathered into our basement, and cuddled to keep
warm. In that split moment I wondered to myself “ What In The World Is Going On?”.

As I peeled the blanket off myself, I looked out my window and the the sun shone right through. While I was lying  in my bed, thinking about what life would be like to live on the streets, I  caught the scent of delicious fresh cupcakes just popping out of the oven. I quickly ran into the kitchen, where my mum had set out a delicious breakfast for my younger brothers and I. Then I thought to myself, “ This Is gonna be a great day”.

The crisis was still going on. I decided to look for my mother, so as I slightly tip toed up the stairs into the kitchen, I heard the front door slam open. I quickly peeked my head through. I saw four men dressed in black looking around the house to see if anyone was there. As soon as they left I quickly yelled out “ MUM”. I then heard footsteps coming towards me.
After having a delicious breakfast with my family I got ready and then headed down to school. I walked into class and everyone said hello, then we got back into our daily routine. Afterwards we learnt a lot about the perimeter of shapes and how to calculate and read  the area. The home time bell rang and so I then headed home.

“Yes my dear” said my mother. I quickly hugged her close and tight. We quickly  ran back down to my brothers and sisters. My mother gave direct orders to wait in the basement until my father came. As soon as he  arrived at our house we quickly packed our bags and hopped into the car. As we made our way to our safe house I looked around the city and all I could see was our country in ashes. “we were robbed of our country and childhood mum”. “What are were gonna do now?” I said to my mother.

Arriving at home I quickly got changed out of my uniform and made something to eat. I then headed into the lounge and watched my T.V programs. After that I quickly checked if I needed to finish of any homework. Then I helped my mum cook dinner. Finally I then got to relax in my bedroom and have a sleep. saying to myself “ Could this be any more perfect”.

Celebrating 13th Jordan's Birthday

Last week we celebrated my cousin Jordan's 13th Birthday. It was held at my Nana and Papa's house @ 1:00pm with my cousins. I was so overwhelmed and excited to have a nice lunch with all my immediate family and cousins .

Arriving at my Nana and Papa's  we walked in and hugged Jordan. He was so happy and excited and just couldn't wait to eat (THE TRUTH). For lunch we had Nachos, Spring Rolls, Wedges, and Chicken Nibbles. Finally we got to eat, we then all sat on the table and each had something nice to say about Jordan. We then sang the Happy Birthday song and then ate.

We then waited a while to have dessert, so then we went outside and played around. It was a mixture of games really, we just basically made it all up. First it was Basketball on our little area, then touch, and then it ended up to be pass the ball bounce it then try. It was such an exciting game that we never really knew what it was.

After that we headed into the house and sang the song in English and Samoan. After that I had a flashback of all the memories we shared together. It reminded me of all our fifth birthdays and how cute and little we were but then now...... I've realized we've changed so much.

I've got to say it probably was the best birthday of the year. Just because everyone was there and there was just no drama going on at all. Happy Birthday Jordan!! Enjoy being young because this the only time you'll have fun. Hopefully you enjoy the many more years to come!

Cross Country: The Fight To The Finish Line

During the past few weeks Pt England School  have been training for the Cross Country run that we did yesterday. Each year we have a Cross Country run just like every other primary school/intermediate to see who are the top 3 runners of their year. Then the top 3 runners go through to inter-zones. Any-ways it all took place at 2:00pm on the field and reserve and finished at 3:00pm.

Just before it was time to make our way to the hard courts we all made our way to the changing rooms and had something to eat.  Everyone represented their colours, Tainui (Blue), Takitimu (Yellow), Te Arawa (Red), and last but not least Mataatua (Green). Our run was about 3km but unfortunately the year eights run was just a little bit longer 3.5km.

As I headed to the start line Mr. Burt instructed the Year 7 girls to take their place. After he demonstrated to us what and where we'd be running he told us to take our places at the start line. " On your marks, Get Set, GO". Mr Burt Yelled. We were of, zoom!!. As fast as we all could we raced, overlapping each other and shoving we all just wanted to get it over and done with.

At the end of the day the Cross Country run was really easier than I actually thought. After all our hard work of trying our best and pushing our self's to the limit it all payed of at the end. Hopefully next year the run is as fun as it was this year.  I think next year I am going to try improve on pushing myself a bit more so that next year I will improve a bit better.

Spoken Word

If you were to say something about the world what would it be?

Today Joshua Iosefo came to my literacy group and talked to us about spoken word. These are some of the things I learnt from him. Everyone's voice is valuable, there is absolutely no limit of writing and we are powerful.
This is some of the writing I have did during Joshua's time with us in class.

First of all Joshua had drawn something random on the board. We were to write about what we thought it was. He said it could be anything at all and so this is what I had wrote.
Scribble On The Board
----------------------------------------------------------------
Random curving lines on the board.  Almost looking like a ribbon with a tiny hash-tag on the side of it.  He doesn't know what he was doing he just let his hand flow,  and the picture he draw actually turned out to be looking like SR#.  There must be a meaning for this!!!

Secondly we had to write about what we would like to tell the entire world. Something that is effecting us personally that we'd want the world to know about.
Problems/ World  Peace
----------------------------------------------------------------

A lot of people should start to look after the world. E.G stop littering and fighting and start worrying about the important problems all over the world. Problems are being caused and people are being killed/hurt. Everyone has feelings, 1 small word had hurt someone a lot.

Cinderella and the Beanstalk Narrative

In our literacy group we were given the task to remake a narrative about a traditional narrative. With the help of Mary L we finished with this piece of writing. Hope you enjoy!!

Once upon a time in a faraway land there lived a young woman named Cinderella. At the age of only 8  her mother died from a very rare sickness. Her father eventually got over Cinderella’s mum and married again. She was raised by her Father , King Mordred and her wicked old stepmother SANDYLINE. SANDYLINE had two daughters ABRID and RUBY. They were exactly like their mother, wicked, ugly, gold diggers, and most of all selfish and greedy.

One fine afternoon while Cinderella was doing her daily chores, she overheard ABRID and RUBY talking about the ball they got invited too. It was ABRID and RUBY’s dream to meet  the Prince Jack from “The kingdom of Skies”. Cinderella didn’t really care about Prince Jack because she thought he was just another poshed up boy from another rich kingdom from far away.

Anyways as usual she had to go to the village markets to collect food for her lazy sisters to eat. While she was there she bumped into a boy. “ OMG, can’t you open your eyes!” yelled Cinderella. “Open yours, you blind LADY” replied the boy. They both looked at each other for a while and apologized and introduced themselves properly. Cinderella had no idea that it was Prince Jack. She had just yelled at him and was totally embarrassed when she found out it was him.

While Jack and Cinderella were having a romantic picnic ABRID and RUBY catched them. With jealously and anger they took a false report back to their mother. Arriving at home CINDERELLA was blasted by SANDYLINE and was sent to be punished in the dungeon. Worn out and hopeless Cinderella sat there trying to figure out how to get help. Suddenly a Flash of glitter appeared in front of her.

“Hello my dear, I am your god mother sent from above. I have come to rescue your poor soul and provide want you shall need” said Fiona to Cinderella.  Escaping out of the dungeon of doom Cinderella ran up stairs to find SANDYLINE standing there. “Where are you going young lady” yelled Sandyline, “You can’t tell me what to do, I have been obeying you, accepting all your commands and especially keeping up with you. I am absolutely sorry but I have to leave”.

As everyday passes by SANDYLINE is filled with guilt and disappointment of the way she treated her daughter in law. She was then diagnosed with depression because she regretted never treating  Cinderella as her own.  ABRID and RUBY were sent to the dungeon for all the problems they caused as years passed along with their mother. As for Cinderella and Prince Jack they had children and got married, and lived happy ever AFTER!!

SER Parents Opinions

Previously in extension we have been investigating on what people think about Self Explaining Roads. These are roads with islands and roundabouts that reduce the speed and danger level down.  I would love to know what you think about them.

Prospective Student Narrative

As the young boy gripped tenuously on the unstable  rock, it suddenly fell and he was left dangling on the ledge of  a mountain. As quickly as he could he reacted and struggled to climb out of the situation he was in. Relieved and exhausted he was glad that he had reached his destination. At long last he had finally reached the dojo and thought to himself   “My dream of becoming a kung fu master is finally here”. I hope the sensei accepts me”, hopes the boy.

Anxious and curious he knocked on the dojo door with no idea on what to expect.  Suddenly the huge door opened and standing in front of the boy was the sensei. To show respect the young boy bowed, but the sensei pointed directly to his right and slammed the door. The young boy was confused and he thought to himself “What a waste of time”.

By not giving up and losing faith the young boy thought he had to prove himself worthy by meditating all day and night til the morning sunrise. Still deep in meditation, the boy did not realize that the Sensei was standing in front of him. The boy opened one lazy eye and once again the Sensei pointed to his right and slammed the door.

The hopeless boy dropped his head in sadness and walks away. Suddenly he had changed his emotions, from depressed to furious. He stormed back to the dojo and karate kicked the enormous door down. The sensei came out again. “I challenge you to a karate battle!” demanded the boy. The sensei pointed in frustration to his right. Turning his head the boy notice the sign that the sensei had been pointing at. “PLEASE USE THE SIDE ENTRANCE!” said the sign. Embarrassed and feeling dumb the boy curled his arms up like a girl and walked onwards.
